The annual session of the Provincial Grand Chanter of New Zealand, opened in the Oraiiffo Hall on Thursday, and was continued yesterday and ' to-day. Delegates are attending from all parts of the Dominion. Reports showed Hint, despite dislocation occasioned by the war, and the heavy drain upon, manhood, the membership and finances of the precentories were well maintained. Regarding the banned literature, the Auckland delegates stated between .£SO and .£IOO was withheld 'by the Customs. It was unanimously resolved: "That the Grand Provincial Chapter Tocords its pro- ! test against the Arbitrary and partial | exercise of its powers by the National ! Government in the interests of the ! Roman Church by the prohibition r>f the importation and circulation of loyal patriotic Protestant literature, which prohibition is. in continuance. This chapter must regard the action of the Government as contrary to the tradition of our Protestant country, and subversive to those great, principles of liberty upon which our Empiro is founded, and without nrecdent in the Empire since the Star Chamber of e.vecrable fame. The chapter, therefore calls upon the Government to : remove the prohibition, and ivlminister the law willi impartiality to all sections of the community." The chapter also passed a vigorous nror«sfc against Homo Rule and Sinn Feinism.
