HUTT HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

The autumn show of the Hutt Valley Horticultural Socioty will be held in the Drill Hall, Lower Hutt, on Wednesday and Thursday next, the show being officially opened by Sir James Allen, Minister of Defenco, on Wednesday at i) o'clock in the afternoon. The show promises to be one of the largest and most successful yet held, both from tho number of exhibits and the quality of tho blooms that will bo staged. Ono of the chief! features will be the display of chrysanthemums, and a3 there is a larger number of exhibitors than usual aud a number of now varieties (importations from Australia) being shown, this section of the show should alone- be well worth a visit by all lovers of this beautiful autumn flower. It is anticipated that entries will be received from growers in Dunedin, Nelson, aud the Manawatu district, lii addition to the many city and suburban enthusiasts. Dahlias will bo well represented Ly some new introductions in the different sections, and a first-class display of fruit and vegetables is anticipated. A new foaturo will be the ftohie industries section, which pro-, vides for .displays in all kinds of bread, scones, ami cakes, classes being arranged for both adults and girls under fourteen years of age. It is anticipated that the nurserymen's exhibits will prove most attractive uiul one of the draws of the show. Visitors from the city can journey to the Hutt either by train or motorbus. Trains leave I.ambton at 1.20, 2.55, 4.-40, 5.5, 5.12, 5.27, and 6.45 p.m., and leave, Hutt at 5.9, 6.23, 6.45, 9.45, and 11 p.m. All profits derived from the show are to l)e donated to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Afternoon tea will be available for visitors, and musical items will be given by an orchestra.
