Tho conference comprised repre- !•■ eontatiyes of the Board of Trade, and of i, brokers, freezing companies, producers, ! itanners, and boot manufacturers. Tho difficulties were narrowed down at the
[ second meeting to—(1) Tho necessity of i allowing freezing companies to export a ' portion of the hides bought prior to ;. ■March- 6. 'A sub-committee was set up to work out : • an equitable allocation of approximately ] 20,000 hides among.the various companies, ; the tenners undertaking to free the qnan- ! iity.so ascertained for export. I tVith respect to the second difficulty. the conference decided to v recommend ': that the Order-in-Conncil be amended— : (a), That ox hides offered at auction in : the following grades and. at the .following ■■ prices, and not purchased by tanners, \ shall be"deemed to have been refused in •■■ euch circumstances as to show that the ; goods are not required for local, purchase nb those prices:—Superior, 3344, Hid:: . -45-52,113 d.; 53-58,12}; 59-G9, 131(1.; 70 and ■, ever, lid. I The conference expressed the opinion ; • -that if these suggestions were given effect j to "the splieme would work smoothly, the j .'(producers' representatives objected in toto !lo any limitation,of prices. : . i I The Board of-Trade recommended tho i adoption of the conference proposals and i "1116 Minister - has approved.
