The Governor-General expresses his gratitude for the loyalty of unofficial Indians who protected tJiosts. threatened by the mob at Anintsar, where the loss of life might nave been greater. The Press Bureau reports that although the observance, of a Day of Humiliation in India on April 6 led to no serious disturbances, Gaudlu and ilrs. Naidu addressed a meeting of Jlohammedans at Bombay, at which inflammatory language was employed regarding the events in Egypt. The crowd then developed rowdiness. A meeting at the French Bridge, of unprecedented magnitude, was exhorted by Gandhi to refrain from violence. The Viceroy on , April 14 reported that Gandhi was forbidden to go to Delhi and the Punjab, where the position was serious, he having threatened, to break certain laws.
