' At the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa and East.Soaat P. and A. Society, held at Carterton, the Department- of Agriculture wrote acknowledging receipt of the society's letter to tick being found on cattle in the Auckland district.'and stating that the Department is taking active steps to combat the possibility of this parasite gaining a foothold in the Dominion. It was reported that. delegates from all tho dairy factories of tho district have met, and tho conditions of the'but-ter-fat competitions diseased. It had been decided that the same condition as last govern future contests,' and that the rule disallowing the owner of cows being present in tho bails be strictly enforced. It was further resolved that the trophy be tho same as heretofore. The chairman reported that matters at tho soldiers' farm were, proceeding very satisfactorily." Tho place was practically stocked, there being 600 or 700 sheep, besides cattle. Bams had been donated by various gentlemen. The Patriotic Society, with the greatest generosity, donated ,£12,000 for the farm, and this amount enabled the committee to work comfortably. Fifty acres had been ploughed and put down in oats for use on the farm. It was tho intention of the management to establish a purebred milking herd, 'and as there were Jersey, Ayrshire, and Hoistein herds in the district, milking Shorthorns were'favoured. Eleven new members were elected, and two resignations accepted. It was decided that tho membership feo for young people under 21 years of age be 10s. per annum, to carry tho privilege of one member's ticket arid one lady's ticket.
