Sir James Allen Acting Prime Minister, left for Auckland by the second express yesterday afternoon. -He will distribute the prizes at the annual pi'i ze " giving of the Auckland Grammar School this evening, and on Wednesday will leave Auckland for Rotorua, where he will open the new Y.M.C.A. Soldiers Institute. He will probably return to Wellington on Thursday.
The Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald is on a. brief visit to New Plymouth. Ho is returning to Wellington to-day.

It was mentioned at the meeting of the Central Chamber of Commerce held vesterday afternoon that the Sir C. M. Luke, was making good piogress towards recovery, and hoped to be about again in a few days. Mr W. J. Thomnson (a member of the Wellington City Council) has been advised that his eon, Lieutenant R.. J. 1.. Thompson, who left Wellington with the Second 'Reinforcement, and. to the First Wellington Infantry Battalion, Ins been promoted to be captain. He left England for New Zealand by the Avawa on April 1.

A vote of sympathy was passed at the meeting of householders at the Britomiirt Street School last evening with Mi. a. Miller, first assistant of the school, who met with an accident during the epidemic, and has since been unable to attend to his duties. Mr. Miller is at i regent in Melbourne recuperating, and i» expected to return to New Zealand at the end of the month.
Prior to leaving for Morrinsville the Rev. H. Cotton, of the Paluatua Methodist Church, was farewelled by his parishioners. and presented by Mr. J. Boagley, on behalf of the congregation, with a cheque for a substantial amount.

Mr J Fryer, who has been associated with "the Engine-drivers' Union since its inception, lias lieen clectcd- a life member of the union.
