LABOUR PROBLEMS
EECOMMENDATIONS OF NATIONAL INDUSTRIALCONFERENCE. London,' April 10. The National Industrial Conference was renewed to-day. . The committee reported in favour of a maximum week of forty-eight hours, minimum'wages, discouragement of overtime, maintenance of unemployed, the raising of the age of child labour, more generous sickness and infirmity benefits and old-age pensions, and the establishment of a permanent National Industrial Council to advise the Government. The conference unanimously adopted Mr. Henderson's motion in favour of accepting the recommendations and urging the Government to give legis. Intivo effect to them. Sir R. S. Home (Minister of Labour) read the Premier's lotter stating that if the conference approved of the recora. mendations the Government would give them its immediate sympathetic consideration. Sir R. S. Home added that he did not doubt that the Government would give effect to the principal clauses of the recommendations. > The miners and transporters did rot attend the conference.—Aus.-N.Z. Cablo Assn. AGRICULTURAL WORKERS ASK FOR AN INQUIRY. London, April 3 (delayed). The Agricultural "Workers' ■ Union is urging an inquiry similar to that of the Coal Commission.
