PRICE OF HIDES ■ The president of the Board of Trade ■ (the Hon. T. M. Wilford) opened the con- ; ference which was held yesterday to deal 'with the vexed question of the;- regulation of the price of hides. The'confer'ence, which had been convened by the ' Minister, was made up of representatives 'of the producers, the freezing interests, 'the wool brokers, tanners, master butch'ers, boot manufacturers, and tho Board 'of Trade. The Government proposed to regulate the price of hides' in order to make possible the manufacture and sale ,i of standardised footwear in New Zealand 'at fixed prices. The conference adjourned until Friday, by which date it is hoped that some more information, desired by the conference, may be available to it.
