"DIGGER'S KIDDIES"
THE CHILDREN'S FUTURE. Now that so many, men are returning the public are forcefully reminded ot the great number of nVen who mil never return at all. The responsibility of looking alter those whom "Digger left behind devolves upon every individual in New Zealand. One of the greatest problems in this connection is that ottte education of the children whoso fathers lmve died in the great war. Tne Ireiitham Dominion Scholarships lund, which exists for the purpose ot providing scholarships for the children, is being vigorously pushedi forward by-its promoters. Colonel H. B. -lottei, CM.G., is devoting,. ft great deal of his time and energy to the cause. Dr. Riddtll, who is eo well known in Hawkes Bay and elsewhere for his enthusiastip interest in all the problems which concern "the "Diggers," is also working hard for the "Diggers' kiddies." The scheme is supported by Dr. J. W. Anderson, Director of Education in Now Zealand, nnd Major-General Sir A. W. Eobiii, K.C.H.G., C.8., who, together, with Colonel H. E. Potter, C.M.&., ftre the trustees. A great many other influential gentlemen throughout the Dominion are using- their best efforts for the furtherance of the scheme, and result's so far are very satisfactory, the public responding very willingly to their appeal. The art union, really ofters some splendid chances'of prisscs, which total in value about =£6300, including the first prize, valued at .£IOOO. Thero are over 170 prizes, and tho shilling tickets, which are on ealo everywhere in New Zealand, all have an equal chance of winning any or all of these.
