In reply to a criticism of: the new regulation's limiting tlie export of hides and * calfskins, the principal point' objected to being that the regulations aimed at giving tanner's '• power to secure an quantity of hides at the price determined by themselves, and that unless the prico.of leather, etc.,', was fixed, the regulation would; have no effect on the price of footwear, the Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald replied that it was..proposed .that tanners,, leather- merchants, exporters, j and manufacturers -,'anould be subjected, to limitations_ 'of ; .prices at a proved parity. -Tho Minister' stated that when the embargoes--un-der, consideration■'.an - application. ..wasmads to- the Board of Trade.for. permission to export.2s,ooo hides, -while'.-tan--viier3 practically-.bare'of etooks were'asking'for 50.000 hides. , .'.'.'
