MESSAGE OF GRATITUDE
TO THE CITIZENS OF THH UNITED STATES. ' At Thursday's meeting of the Wellington Citv Council the Mayor (Mr. J. I'. ■Luke) movedi— "That this council place on record, on behalf of the citizens of Wellington their sincercst thanks to the citizens of the United States for their generous hospitality tendered to the New Zealand troops during their play at and passage through the Panama Canal. The cordial expression of welcome that our kith and kin have received lias made a profound impression on the people of New Zealand, and has .tended to strengthen that bond of comradeship which was fust established in France in the common cause of humanity ami world advancement. And that a copy of this resolution be communicated .to the Consul for the United States of America for transmission to the authorities in the Canal Zone."
The motion was seconded by Councillor W. H, P. Barber, who said that New Zealand was under a deep dobt of gratitude to the American people at Panama for the fine treatment they had accorded our boys again and again.
