A special meeting, of tho Palnjorston branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants held last evening was addiessed by Mr. M. .1. Mack, general secretary. He explained the proposals inudo for improving the conditions of employees which were the. outcome of negotiation!) between tho executive and the Minister of Railways, and suggested that theso should bo adopted. A general discussion followed, in which a number of anomalies in tho proposals were pointed out. Eventually members decided to hold a, special meeting on Sunday morning next lor further considering tho matter. It is understood that local members of tho locomotive section havo decided not to accept the proposals, and are demanding that tho whole of the concessions asked for should be granted. FIRST DIVISION APPROVES NEW RATES. Representatives of the TJ ail way Officers' Institute (First Division men in the service) met Ihe management of (he Department yeslerday to discuss the proposals made by the Minister and Ihe management for a new schedule nf rates of pay. The conference was quite satisfactory, and tho institute delegates adopted the Department's proposals.
