TIME EXPIRED

NEW SHIP TO EEPLACE AMOKUEA,

The training ship Amokura is bacly out of repair and very old indeed. If the ship is to bo kept seaworthy repairs will be continuously necessary. For ten months the boys have not had a cruise, as that the training they are supposed'to have had has been confined to Wellington Harbour. -

The Minister of 'Marine (the Hon. T. M. Wilford) 'made an announcement to the iboys. of the ship yesterday which should'have pleased them. Ho tola: them in effect ..'that they are very likely to have a- new ship soon. Mr. Wilford- said he was satisfied that the time had come when the Amokura would have to be put out of commission as a training ship. With the idea of getting an up-to-date ship he had asked Cabinet to communicate with the Prime Minister, requesting him to endeavour to secure a ship from the Admiralty, a ship that would be right up to date, anil if possible a ship with a war. history. .His aim was to place in our waters a ship which would meet all requirements for some time to come, a much bigger boat than the Amokura. He hart received a cablegram from .Mr. Massey saying that the request of Cabinet had been received, and that he was already in touch with' the Admiralty with a view to obtaining such a boa'f.
