NAPIER HIGH SCHOOL
BEQUEST FOB, ,\ GOVERNMENT . . GRANT. A deputation from the Hawke'g .Hay Education Board waited on the Minister of Education (the Hon. J. A. Haniin) on Tuesday afternoon to ask for a Government grant of .215,000 spread over three years, and a £ for .E subsidy on local donations, towards the building of tho Napier High School; also a grant for a hostel. It was estimr&jl that the cost of the new school wcfild be between J150.000 and .£OO,OOO. The Minister stated that he wanted to help tho board; but he had to consider tho money available »ind the demands from other districts. After the Department had made a careful examination of tlw plans and reported to him lie would be prepared to recommend Cabinet 10 approve a grant, but not up to .£15,000. The question of a subsidy would have to be settled by Cabinet after the grant vns approved. He was also prepared to coneider recommending Cabinet to approve a sum towards the cost of the hostel.
