' Arbitration Court awards affecting Wellington bricklayers and Wanganui bricklayers, and an amending award lor the Wellington painters ana decorators have been nled in the ,Supremo Court. In tliu Wellington brioiuayers' award th»' week's work is to considt of iortyfuur hours—live days of eight hours, and irorn 8 a.m. till noon on baturday (with one hour lor dinner from 12 till i p.m.), from August 1 till April 30, and from May 1 tlil July 31 the hours are from' b a.m. to 1.30 p.m. on eacn day except Saturday, with half-nour ( for dinner. The minimum wage for' a journeyman is fixed at . Is. yd. per hour, and in addition a bonus of 2}d. per hour until tho Court otherwise crdcrs, All, bricklayers enguged in tli6 following class of work are to be paid time and a iiuarter;—All hot und dirty work, chimney stacks and lowers over 10ft. in height and standing apart from any building, and stoeplos after 25ft. above ttie building. Work done in two inches or more of water, or 'where water ,is dripping on tho worker, shall be paid for at the rate of Ume and a (jiiivrter, or gumboots and oilskins snail be provided. All repairs r.o bakers' ovens, retorts, and furnaces done during ordinary working hours to be paid double time, and if done on Sundays or .holidays treble time. Permanent hands are, however, exempt from tins clause. Overtime rates are time and a quarter for tho first two hours, time and a half thereafter until 10 p.m., and double time thereafter. Work done on Saturday afternoon time and a half, and oil holidays double time. There is tho usual provision for under-rate workers and for country work. Piecework is piohibiled. The proportion of apprentices to journeymen is not to oxceed one to every three journeymen or fraction of the iirst three. Preference is granted tlie union, and the award is to remain in force for two years from' April 7. 1919. Tho Wanganui bricklayers' award is practically tho sauio as that for the Wellington bricklayers. The Wellington painters and decorators' award (Vol. 17) is amended so that all workers competent to do painting and pnperhangin:;, glaziers, grainers, and signwriters are to receive not less than Is. 7Jd. per hour, all others Is. Gd. per hour, in adidtiou a bonus of 2Jd. per hour. The wages of apprentices are also increased, and the order takes effect as from April H.
