OPENING DAT ON MUNICIPAL ' LINKS. The Wellington Municipal Golf Club opened its season at the municipal links, Berhampore, on Saturday, fully two hundred people attending, showing that an increasing interest is being taken in municipal golf. Councillor Frost briefly addressed tho gathering, and wished th'o cluli a very successful year, 110 snid that the City Council had always tried to do its best to encourage nil healthy outdoor sports, Dr. Cameron, president of the dub, stressed the importance of an extension of tho links, which could be done at very small cost. He stated that this part of the Town Belt was a credit to the council, and it was tho only nnrt that was a credit to that' body. Tho gor66 had been removed and the surface of tho ground was rapidly improving for golfing and grossing: purposes. As .the result of this improvement the council wero receiving a much largts amount for grazing than they used to obtain. In spite of this somo people seemCd nnwilling to take the increased grazing' fees into consideration, and reckoned the playing aiAl grazing fees obtained together. Personally lie was not opposed to a. limited number of cows grazing on tho links, as they served i> verr useful purpose in supplying fresh milk for infants in this neighbourhood, and by so doing undoubtedly saved the lives of many infants yearly. Seeing that they served such a useful purpose he hoped that golfers would view their presence on tho links witli kindly eyes. If the extension asked for was made the land would bB similarly improved and mado more, useful in ovory way. He considered the council should make provision for housing (hose employed 011 the links.

Councillor Frost, by request, drove the first boll. A very excellent, exhibition match was played by Mr. Clements, of Miramar, arid Messrs. Black and Whitehead, tho two best local players. The local players were very much at home 011 their own links, and the match was undoubtedly the finest exhibition of solf yet seen on these links, and much appreciated' by' the spectators. Long driving and putting competitions wire also indulged in. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies and groat ly appreciated 'by those present. KAROHI CLUB. The formal opening of the . ICarori Golf Club's season took place on Saturday in bright sunshine and n. slight southerly wind—ideal conditions for golf. Members and visitors turned out in force. In addressing tho gathering, the president (Mr. L. George) announced that the course had been extended by the addition of three noiy, holps 011 tho opposite side of the road, and that tile club had hopes of securing another aix holes in that locality. He hoped the members would avail themselves of the services of Iho conch (Mr. Vfntt) during the-season. In declaring the links open be expressed the hope that they would liavo a * 017 pleasant time. Members then took part in a mixed foursome. The best cards handed in were: Miss Carriek and Mr. George, 33 down; Mrs. Martin and Rlolt! \ 'down; and Mrs. Gilbert and Mrs. Griffiths, J down.
