INCREASED RATES THE NEW SCALE The Defence Department has completed the preparation of the now scale of military pay v nnd allowances. Some of tho more important figures have nlreadj' boe.n published in The Dominion. Substantial increases have been made in tho pay of officers, while on the other hand the camp and field allowances have been decreased. All officers have been placed on the same looting with respect to allowances. >' Some of the oh&nges that aTO being made are summarised in the following tables. ' 226 The old rates wero: Warrant officers, J2225; n.c.o.'s on first appointment, £190; n.c.o.'s after 3 years' service, ,£210; n.c.o.'s after 5 years'- service, The new rates thus raise the minimum 6f ranks below warrant; officer, Class 1, and give a married allowance, of about 10s. per week additional to all members of the N.Z.P.S. ' 1
The new daily rates for the B.N.Z.A. aro as under, the married rates being given within parentheses:—Second class Master Gunner and R.S.M., 12s. 4d. (145.); R.Q.M.S., lis. lOd. (135.t6d.); third class Master Gunner, C.S.M., nnd 8.5.M., lis 4d (13s); Sgt lis. (12s. 4d.); Cpl., 10s. 6d. (lis. 6d.); Bdr., 10s. 3d. (lis. 3d.); Gunners and" Drivers, Bs. (95.). Proficiency pay of Is. a day i 6 given to gunners and drivers, and good conduct pay, rising from 3d. to Is. Gd. per day, for men with from six mfaths' to 20 years' service. '
