MAXIMUM. PENALTY INFLICTED,

In the Magistrate's Court at Roxburgh on Thursday William Tan6ey, licensee of the Goldfields Hotel, was ohargetl with selling liquor to Jacob Faigan '

during prohibited hours. The evidence for the prosecution was that at 10.30' p.m. on February. 11 Tansey sold liquor to Faigan and a man named Forbes. Later on the same night Forbes was arrested on a charge of stabbing-another man in the vicinity of the hotel.

The defence was that-Faigan was a lfldger at the hotel, but. the evidence showed that he lived next door.

The defendant was fined the maximum penalty, (,E10) and his license, was endorsed. '
