Lieutenant I-'. K. Browne, N.Z.P.S., poii of Mrs. M. E. Browne. Roscncnth Terrace, d ; ed at Cashmere Hills Sanatorium on March 25 at the age of 4G years. Deceased lived in AYellinglun until -189G, when he left for England. On arrival there ho enlisted in the Royal Engineers, and from then on served continuously with his regiment until ■ he took his discharge in November. 1913. During this lengthy period of soldiering ho. served at Alalia ('ISfIS), Sierra l.ooue (1902), [long Kon.g '190,1). and South Africa (1911). He joined- the Public Works DciHirtini'tit, South Africa, as aclerk of- works at Johannesburg, "but on the outbreak of war his services wore at once claimed by the Defence' Department. He equipped the Prisoners of AVar Camp, and later the nuarters for the. troons guimr lo German West Africa, until May, 1915. Tie returned to New Zealand in June. 1915. and enlisted in the N.Z.E.F. as a-private. With his vp.lua.blo record of scrvico in the Royal Engineers behind him h<- was npnointed to (he..stnir of the Director of AV'nrks, and his abililv being recogni.-ed, he finally .received his appointment to commissioned rank.
