On Monday next, at the Town Hall, a working day for members of the Countess of Liverpool Fund will lie held. An members are particularly requested to be present, as arrangements are lo bo made for tlio stall the fund is holding on Returned Soldiers' Day, and work begun in connection wiHi the making of "housewives" for the men of the battleship New Zealand. The Liverpool stall will have woollen comforts for sale, handknitted socks, etc. Some leather waistcoats will also bo for sale, wid these are expected to sell well, as they would bo warm for motoring wear during the winter. There will, of course, be other goods also, and the stall should be an attractive, on*.
Mrs. Kineton Partes, who is to speak in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall on .Tuesday afternoon upon prohibition under the auspices of tlio Lthciency Board, will be the guest ot Lady Stout during her stay in Wellington.
The Rev. Mr. Stanton, Anglican chaplain at Trentliiim, will bo very glad to receive contributions of books, magazines, weekly papers etc., for the use of the men in the Trentliam Military Hospital. It will be remembered that the contents of the library that had been so enthusiastically gathered in by Miss Rcthenberg had to 1)6 burned after tno influenza epidemic, and since then there has been a great shortago of literature fo- the patients. Such gifts will be a great boon to the men, and intending donors are asked to leave their contributions at the Diocesan Office in MulgraTo Street at as early a date as possible.
Mrs. Preston, who is in charge of the St John .Ambulance Brigade Overseas stall in connection' with the Returned Soldiers' Club street day appeal, will be very grateful for. contributions to the variety stall. All kinds of novelties, useful or ornamental, will be gladly received; in fact, anything that is likely to attract the attention of the passersby in tho fitreet and induco them to assist the cause by their expenditure, tufts may be left at the Star Bonimg bhed before tho day of the appeal or at the stall during the early part of the day.
Tho daughter of tho Dean of Worces. ter Mrs. Rivers Moore, has been appointed woman probation officer of Croydon police courts at .£2OO a year.
Wedding at St. John's Church. On Wednesday last at St. John's Church, Willis Streot, tho marriage took place of Miss illsie Evclino Macdonald, eldest daughter of Mr*. H. J. Bristol- and the late Mr. Alton D. Macdonald, of Wellington, to Sergoant-Miijor A. M. Stewart, voungest son of Mr. James Stewart, of Dundee, Scotland. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Dr. Gibb. Uw bride wore a gown of cream ninou over duchess satin, and satin train with spray of orange blossoms, and ou tho bodice were touches of shell pink and silver lace. Her veil, of embroidered tulle, was fastened with a wreath of orange blossoms, and she carried a. beautiful pink and white shower bouquet. The bridc.-fjiuids wore her two sisters, Misa Violet aim. Miss c'lora Macdonald, who wore frucks of shell pink embroidered crepe de chine with sleeves of crepe georgette and black pan velvet hats. Thoy carried pretty pink bouquets. Thero was also in attendance a littlo llower-girl dressed in shadow laco over pink. 'M;v. 0. C. Maxougnrb attended as best man and Mr. K. L. Ciivorhill as groomsman. Tho bride's gift to the bridegroom was a gold tie-pin, and the bridegroom's gift to tho bride was fox lure. Tho ' bridesmaids received a pearl spray bracelet and .an engraved gold bungle respectively, and the tiny llower-girl a pearl brooch. ' The bride's mother wore black chiffon-taffeta and a hat of black and white silk velvet with I white ospreys, and carried a bouquet of heliotrope asters and maidenhair t'ern. After the ceremony a reception was given by Mr. and Mrs. Brister at tho Oriental Kiosk,' where relatives ami a few intimate friends were entertained. SergeantMajor and' Mrs. Stewart left la-tor for a (•our in tho South Island. Mrs.-Stewart travelled in n black and white check I tailor-made, costume with furs and vieux rose toque.

At St. Aden's Church, Alfredton, Miss Annie Algio, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. «■ Algie, of "Hillside," Alfredton, was married to Mr. Arthur Stanley Edmonds, third son of Mr. and Mrs. A. 6. Edmonds, "Mona," Alfredton. The ceremony was performed by tho Eev. Mir. Davies. Miss May Edmonds was bridesmaid and Mr. A. Eliot best man. A reception was afterwards held at "Hillside," and later in the day Mr. and Mrs. Edmonds left by motor-oar for the north. Word has been received by her friends in Wellington that Mrs. Penneiold and her daughter, Miss Elaine Pennefold, ft-re now quite settled in Sydney, a short distance iuvay from the Conservatorium of Music, and the latter has already begun her violin studies with Mr. Nicholls, one of tho quartet of teachers engaged by the New South Wales Government. The many friends of the clover little Wellington dancer Miss Wyonne HayI biltlo will regret to hear that she has not been in good health for some time past. She is due to arrive in Wellington next week from Melbourne by the Westralia for a rest before rejoining her company. Weddiiifl at Muritai. I The wedding took place in tho Anglican Church at Muritai yesterday afternoon of Miss Emma Wiido, daughter of Mrs. Wilde, of Bona Bay, to Mr. John liobinson. only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Robinson, of Wellington. Tho ceremony was performed by the Kcv. Mr. Stent. Tho brido wore a cretiui gaberdine costume, with a black hat, and carried a shower bouquet of white- and pink liowers. Tho bridesmaids woro tho Misses Wilde (2), Miss Aitken, and Miss Post, the two alder of whom, Miss Wilde and Miss Aitken, wore frocks of pink crepe de cbiuo with black tints trimmed with touches of pink. Their botiquots were, of pink-shaded flowors. Tho two younger bridesmaids were in white silk frocks, with whito lints, and they, too, carried pretty l,ormets. The best man was Mr. Poole, and tho groomsmen. Mr. Hutcheson and Mr. Garrett. The bridegroom, best n_ian, and groomsmen are all returned _ eoldiers. Tho bride's mother, Mrs. Wilde, wore black silk, with a black hat, as did Mrs. Bob. inson. tho bridegroom's mother. A reception was subsequently held at "Donholme," the residence ol Mrs. Wilde, a large marquee having been erected on the lawn, and decorated with ferns and foliage. Among tho relatives present were the Mayor and Mayoress (Jlr. and Mrs. J. P. Luke), Captain and Mrs. I'ost. Mrs. Aitken, and Mr. and Mrs. M'Ciregor. The bride's travelling dress wns of fawn gaberdine, with a hat to match.
A Handsome Gift, The following letter to the secretary of the Returned Soldiers' Club speaks tor itself:- , , "Dear sir—l am instructed by the committee of the Sydney Street Soldiers' Club to hand over to the Returned Soldiers' Club the balance of money reluuinin" at, our disposal alter winding up our club's affairs. You no doubt are aware Unit tlio Sydney Street Club was founded early in the war by a number of Wellington ladies, Mrs. W. F. Massev being the president, m order to provide a place of rest and recreation for the soldiers visiting Wellington from the eamus at Trentham and Fcatherston. the success which attended the club will.be known to the members of your organisation many thousands of whom were made welcome within its walls during the desperately trying years we have just passed throiHi. When, with the close of :ne war, the activities of our club were no longer called for, niv committee lelt that it could put the funds remaining at its disposal lo no better use than in furthering the welfare of returned soldiers through,vour institution. My committee felt that'this would not only meet their own desires, but would also meet with Uie approval of those who have at all times so generously contributed to the funds of the Svdney Street Soldiers' Cub. I therefore enclose a cheque ior X4ol l.fe. 3d., being the balance of the money still remaining in our hands, and ask. the returned soldiers to accept it with our very best wishes for their welfare and for the success of their club.-I am, etc., Katharine Earle, lion, secretary Sydney Street Soldiers' Club." It migh be explained that the sum of .£451 19s 3d. mentioned above represents the balance of JS4S!) Red Cross Afternoon. A very cniovahle social afternoon was spent on AYednesday last at the Presbyterian Hall, Kliaudallali, in connection with ths Mayoress's Bed Cross Guild, narking Hie approaching termination ot the suild's activities. Mrs Tanner, the ujosfdent, spoke a few words at the opening and Mrs. Houston, the secretary, read the report of the work done by the member! during the past three.years. Mrs J. Hanan, wife of the Minister of Education, gavo a niucl.-apprepiated address referring.to the mine which = being bnilt for crippled sokhers also the groat need for the Girs' Hostel, ami f-gel the Khandallah ladies to form classes for training in home nursing. A delightful imisical programme was ■_.»- rK by Miss Dorothy Einn, in which Sanies Hanan, Thorns, mid Tanner wt Misses Mitcherlich, Finn, end M'lrt'h took part.
