STOP-WORK MEETING OF UNION,

A ,T stop-work" meeting of the Wellington Waterside Workers' Union'was held yesterday morning, the chief business of tlie meeting being the consideration of the request that has been made by the Wnterside Workers' Federation ior u conference with the employers regarding wages and conditions. There were about 1500 members of tho union present. Mr. J. Roberts, secretary of the federation, attended, and made a statement regarding the correspondence that had passed between the employers and himself. Tho meeting indicated its opinion that there had been unnecessary delay on tho part of tho employers in arranging for tho conference requested lpy the federation. The meeting dealt with some general business.. It instructed a deputation'to interview the Harbour Hoard and ask for the provision of a restaurant hall and an office for the union. The deputation was instructed also to wait upon the City Council and suggest that the tramway sections should start from tlu; Chief Post Office instead of Lnmbton Station, in order that watefSide workers and others might bo able to travel full sections on their way to and from work.
