PEACE CELEBRATIONS
WHEN TO HOLD THEM?
Already..-..inquiries,are being made by Citizens as to when the peaco celebrations will "be held in New Zealand; whether the rejoicings ' should be on the Signing of the preliminary treaty, which nnay bo in a' few weeks, or on the signing of tho final international pact, which tnay not' be for eomo months. The Act-ing-Prime Minister was asked this question yesterday, but the only reply he was able to give was that ho did not know, although the matter was one which had had his attention already. Sir James Allen said that the question had occurred to him some few days ago, and lie ■had cabled to England inquiring what tho intention of tho authorities in Britain was, for ho thought it would be desired that there should be _ uniform practice throughout tho Empire. .He had. however, not yet received a reply to his cablegram, probably owing to the delay in the transmission of cables just 'now! .Ho said also that unless advice came soon New Zealand would have to make its own decision, because things cnnld not be allowed to remain in doubt for much longer.
