A swimming competition took place at Falmerston this week between teams representing the Wanganui Technical College and the Palmerston North High School. The teams were:—Wanganni: Bolton. Heid, Marsde'i, and Gilbert. Palmerston: Sollitt, Eyre, .Kiggs, olid Munro. Appended are the results:— 225vd5.: Sollitt (I'iilmerstoni beat lieid (Wanganui). 100 yds.-. Bolton (V'angantii) be.it Eyre (Paimerston) ..50yds.. Riggs i'Pnlnierstoii) beat Marsden (WaJiKamii). The lotay race was won by Wanganui. and all the events produced Kood finishes. Reid, who was defeated by Sollitt, came third in the New Zealand schools championship held recently in Christehmvh.

l'innlily is being reached in the Manawntu ''champion of champions" bowling tournament. On Wednesday the rink matches were played on the Palmerston North Club's greens. The Palnierston North Technical School has this year commenced work with no fewer than fifty-two classes, containing 1050 enrolments, and has a stall' of twenty-two teachers. The school now ranks as sixth in point of sizo in tiie Dominion. At the official inspection by n.embors of the board this week tho director, Mr. F. Opie, was congratulated ou the splendid order and tone shown amongst the pupils. Tho party was Ghown over the buildings, and saw eleven classes at work, viz.: practical engineering, plumbing, woodwork, bookkeeping, shorthand (2), dressmaking, millinery, ort (life cluss), and a Standard VC class. Mr. Connor has graduated from tho learners' gallery at the Palnierston North Post Oitice to a position on tho Otaki staff. Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Maclean, of Otaki. have left on a six-months' trip to Scotland. Tho secretary of the Mount Hector Track Committee, Otaki, lias been in communication with Gorge settlers relative to the improvement of the track over the Tararua ranges, via Mount Hector. They have agreed to go . over the route and report as to the best track over the range and the most suitI uVlo locality for a hut. The Greytow n committee, who were very anxious for improvements, have offered to subsidise ,£! for £ any amount up to ■Cad, while Mr. W- 11.
