THE NEED FOR INSULATED SHIPS
POSITION IN IfAWKE'S BAY. Jiy Telegraph—Press Association. Hastings, March 27. The Hawkc's Bay Branch of the Farmers' Union Ims forwarded the following resolution to the Acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. J). H. Gutiirie, unci tho , lion. \V. D. S. Mac Donald: "That this executive strongly protests to the Minister in charge against allowing the Australian Freight Committee to absolutely control the steamers allocated to New Zealand tor frozen produce, and asks that the Imperial Government be approached with a. view to making different. arrangements immodiatelv. (2) This executive points out that half the meat in store at the present time is last season's, and owing to this the Imncvial Government's produce is deteriorating; further, that space in the Hawkc's Bay works is full, in spite of only half tho usual quantity of stock having been dealt "with. (3) That owing to the shortness of shipping allocated to Napier, large numbers of stock are being railed to,works outside Ilawke's Bay; this is a very serious tax on the - Hawkc's Bay workmen, and a great loss to traders in Ilawke's Bay generally, a further call on the railways, with depleted staffs ami rolling stock, besides a wastage of coal, which is badly needed for other purposes. We urge upon you to see .thai: a reasonable amount of spaco is allocated to Napier at once, as winter is approaching, and there is no appearance of relief so far. We notice that the Act-ing-Prime Minister has . secured Uiree extra ships for April, and demand ut least our, fair share of space on these."
