A public meeting .was lield at Lower Hutt. last evening to i.onsider what steps should bo taken to suitably celebrate the signing of peace. The Mayor (Mr. E. P. 'R-ishworth) nresided, and there was a fairly representative gathering present, deluding--the ministers of religion, The Petone Peace Committee wrote asking if tlio Hutt children would ioin th» IVinp children in a huge picnip- at the Hutt Park, but it was decided to hold a function on their own account." It was decided to make a special child-ren's-day, when sports will be held. A strong-committee was set up lo canvass the. town, for donations, and the brirough council is lo be asked to donate .£SO. Suggestions, were adopted for holding a nat-i-iotic concert, and tile lij-'hting of bonfires and a fireworks disnlav. A meeting of the committee v-ill be held nextweek'to mnke ..further arrangements.
