I'i the Supreme Court yesterday, before M\\ Justice Chapman. Alexander Hires, licensee of the Taratahi Hotel, appealed against his conviction for selling twelve bottles of beer to five soldiers. After hearing legal argument Mr. Justice Chapman reserved his decision.
A case is now occunying the Masterfon Supreme Court in which C. Tl. Daniel), Ltd., claim from Reginald William Kebbell, a soldier settler on the, Tirnumca Estate, the sum of JI3BI', balance duo on ths' erection of a building. Tvebbcll has nut in a counter-claim for ,£132 for alleged breach of contract. - At a meeting of the Wairarapa Patriotic Association yesterday a grant of .£12.500 in debentures was made to the Tnrntahi Training Varm for Soldiers. This will enable the farm to bo cleared
of all liability excepting for building, the liability for which has been undertaken by the Government.
The question of land for soldiers was discussed by the Wairarapa. Patriotic Association vesterdav, and it was decided, on the motion of Mr. J. T. M. Hornsby, ■M.P., that the members for Wairarapa, Masterton, and Puhiatun be asked to in- I terview the Minister of Lands on tho subject with delegates from the association. The harvest thanksgiving services in connection with the Carterton Salvation Army was held on Sunday, being conducted 'by Adjutant and Mrs. Hcsking, Wellington, assisted by.Bro. nnd Sifter Dowdle, Feilding, arid Bro. Mead, FcaIherston Camp. An interesting lecture, illustrated by lantern slides, on town-planning, was uiven in Carterton on Friday evening by Mr. Anscombc, architect, of Dunedin. The lecture was given under the auspices of the Carterton Borough Council. .
