NOTES FROM VARIOUS ; CENTRES MANAWATU NOTES Members of the Ivairauga County Council met a representative gathering of Whakaronga settlers in couiereiiee on Monday over the question of the formation of a drainage board for the district. Mr. J. Liuklatcr, chairman of the county, who presided, said that the council had come there to help the Whakaronga settlers all they could, and. he 'hoped to see them form Miemselvei into a drainage board, and get on with the work required. The councillors and settlers then inspected tho creek und the new cut which -it was proposed to put through. It was pointed out that if the creek were straightened and cleaned ed out lower down the water would all [be carried away. Subsequently the settlers held a meeting, at which it was decided to form the necessary the members appointed being Messrs. S. it. Lancaster, J. Shepherd, W. Dyers, Haslock, and Brown. Mr. Tjincaster, who WB3 elected chairman, said that the scheme was going to benefit the district as'a whole. He thought about. JUOOO would'be required to do the necessary •work, and the presoiit loan of about ,£2OO would lie absorbed in it us well. The interest nnd sinking fund when divided amongst twenty or thirty settlers would not amount to much in consideration of the benefit that would be' derived 'from the scheme. *■ - -Reserved judgment was filed in the Supreme Court, at Palmerston on Monday in an action affecting the Bankruptcy Act which was heard in tho Supreme 'Court on February 27 by Mr. Justice Chapman. The action' was one in which the Deputy Official Assignee ior the Pahiatua district petitioned ior an order lmlliiving the payment of .£IOO to, the Masterton Implement Company, on the grounds that the same was illegally .made, and was wrongfully given preference over the claims of other creditors. The facts as set out were that the New Zealand Postal Department had paid to the Masterton Implement Company the sum of JJIOO out of moneys due to Alex. 11. O. Irvine and Carnegie E. Boulston, of Pomraroii. mail contractors, on an or- ' tier signed by the aforesaid contractors, who had within three months been adjudged bankrupts. in reviewing the evidence. His Honour held that on January 1!). 1918, the debtors were adjudicated in respect of au act of bankruptcy committed on November 20, 1917. This was fatal to the. claim of the company to

A ship's dinghy bearing the name "Merry Duchfcss" has been found .on tho Hokio' beach,' Levin. It is in a fairly good state of preservation. The bazaar held at Levin recently in aid- of St. Mary's Church netted i!SG.
