EASTBOURNE MAYORAL ELECTION

'Sir—My friend, Mr. Richards objects to a. statement in your issue of Saturday relative to the Mayoral contest, in this borough, as slightly.incorrect. I am reminded of Mark Twain's concern at the "greatly exaggerated" report of his death. The statement 'in question is either correct or incorrect, it cannot possibly be slightly incorrect. Perhaps the parties concerned would prefer to call it a terminological inexactitude. I define the difference as follows. It is correct to 6ay: Mr. Richards is an Eastbourne elector. It would be slightly incorrect, however, to withhold the fact that he is also lion, secretary of tho Ratepayers' Association, a body numbering at most one-sixteenth of the 'total electorate.—l am, etc., C. HAUTE IDGE. Eastbourne, March 2i.
