EDUCATIONAL REFORM

Sir,—Jinny of your readers will, 1. nm sure, like myself, take strong exception to the articles you havo given space to on "Education Eeform, by. F. L. Combs. Has this writer evur had the opportunity of studying educational systenjs outfidc of New Zealand, or what, may we ask, are the qualifications entitling him to air. with such seeming authority his opinions upon so important a topic? When lie writes in tho contemptuous manner he does, of Hie English and Scottish Reformers and of the Bible as heing no longer read, and asks "in what, literary successor should be invested the enormous power to sivny opinion and guide action which the Bible once possessed?" he proclaims himself unworthy of serious attention. Later on, where he uses the phrase, "(he !»o?t damnable heresy of uniform school books," it is even more apparent that he is onlv a pedant ivith ideas of no practical value upon the subject he has written.—l am, etc., D.O.M.
