RETURNED SOLDIERS' CLUB APPEAL
ARRANGEMENTS FOR 'STREET DAY. A meeting of the committee', who, are organising tho street day to bo . hold shortly for the benefit of the Returned Soldiers' Club appeal was held in tho club, Lambton Quay, yesterday afternoon. It was decided at the meeting to rafflo the cooker which had been presented by Mr. C. !?• Smith, and aa soon as thu l»nnit has been secured arrangements for tho disposing of the tickets would bo immediately carried into effect. Mrs. A. Crawford oli'ered' to take charge of the arrangements for the disposal of the books, and it was decided that tickets should be sold at sixpmiw each, h'uoka would be given to each sbaliholder willing to accept thorn for disposal, and the meeting decided that it would bs advisable to display tho cooker in a shop window up to anil on the day of the street appeal. It was anticipated that when tho cooker was seen and its working thoroughly understood there would tea great demand for tickets. ' • . ■ ' ■ It was reported that by- the' sale of flags a sum of .£47 193. 6d. had been made, of which'.£23 had been madeby Mre.Martin and her Northland Committee and iOIO by Mrs. Pomara's Maori Countes or Liverpool Fund workers; these' boing the largest amounts received for that particular offort; It was decided that llags ehonld be handed.out to each'stallliolder to be disposed of on the street appeal day at sjxponeo each. Other sums realised wore made by acricket match, Colts v, Veterans/ and '.fiil 19s.- 9d. -from the dance' organised by Mrs.. Coiill at' Day 8 Bay. Four warehouses'were donating a earn oi'J>2s'each, (ind tho banks another .£IOO between them. It was also reported that"tho jumblo- sales held ;recently had realised satisfactory:, amounts : for ;tlie benefit of the.stalls for which they..-had been organised -in connection with tho appeal. It was decided that all tarda should be handed in to the secretary .at the office of th? TheNorthlaiul Committee is orßanising ft dance to bo held in .St. .'Anne's Schoolroom on Wednesday night,, for the benefit of their stall.".A-bran tub is. an. attraction to be attached to ono of the stalls, and Mrs. Henry.Hall will be vary glad of contributions in tho way of toys, novelties, and gifts -suitable for the'purpose, to bo left at the office of the club.
