SNUB WINS KING'S PLATE,
ELKIN AGAIN SUCCESSFUL. , (Rcc. March 23, 5.5 p.m.) Melbourne, March 22. The weather was cloudy, and there was a gooil attendance for the final day of the V.R.C. autumn meeting. The promising two-year-old Pannikin won the Hopeful Stakes brilliantly. The time for tha race rS it record. Sea Princess was left a; the post. Hlkin and Sextia, first and second in the Gibson Carmichael Stakes, are owned by Mr. B. K. D. Clarke. The favourite. Ursfar, was third from last. The Northcote Handicap was a bumping race. Carriole was !ast for five furlongs, but got a good run on tho rails, and just won. The favourite, Turaru Jack, lost his rider early in the Steeplechase. Snub was favourite in the King's Plate, and led most of Iho way, winning decisively. Star Comedian was last to the four furlonss post, and (inislud well. In the Farewell Handicap Ninna led early, but finished in in the ruck. R. Marshall, rider of Boontreu in the Northcole Handicap, was suspended for a month lor boring. Autumn Meeting was concluded at Fleniington on Saturday. The opening event, the Hoprful Stakes, was won by Pannikin, a youngster bv Jliilt King from Pansy, who was purchased for 320R115. at tho yearling fiales last year. In the Gibson .Carniichael Stakes, Elkin. wlio won the March Nursery Handicap on Thursday, again "prevailed. He -was followed home by his stable mate Sextia. Wildun, the third horse* is/by Eudorus— Lady Malster (Malster—Lady Mary), and cost 420gns. as a yearling. Car'riole, who was successful in the Northcote Handicap, ran second in the Brunswick Stakes on the first day of tho meeting. He is a gelding by Perambulator from Merry Queen, by Metal. His only win last year was in a welter at a small meeting. Menin, who finished second, was also placed in the Australian Cup. He is an imported horse, being by lioi Herode. the sire of The Tetrarch. The third horse Lancer Plume won the River Haudican at the meeting on Thursday. The Auckland-bred Tararu Jack came to erief early in the Steeplechase, which was won by Pinon, ivlio ran off in the first steeplechase on Tuesday. Tararu Jack must have had ISst. in the. saddle on Saturday, seeing Hint he won with over i.2st. on the previous Tuesday. Before Mr. AV. R. Kemball went to Australia he was of the opinion that he could race iust as cheaply over there as in the Dominion. Up to the present his team has competed at only two meetings, and it has won for him close on 1500 sovs. Snub Ms now won two races, the. Governor's ■rp. on Thursday and the King's Plato on Saturday. There does not seem to be a decent slayer in Australia at the present time. There are a couple of races to bo decided at Eandwick next month Hiat Snub should be very handy in. The Lady in Blue, By Grafton. Blue Cross a five-yeni'-nld I>v Linacre from Lady in Blue, by Grafton. Blue ■ finished third in the Oakleigh Plate, run early this month. The race was rnn in fast' time, the mile taking lmin. 39Ssec. The next big meetiric in Australia is l he Enndwick fixture to be held at Easier tinio.
