NOT TO BE SPENT ON WAE MEMORIALS. Bγ Telegraph.—ltcss Association. Christchurch, March 22. Patriotic or war fund societies are not to be permitted to expend any part of their moneys on war memorials. Upon that point the Government has taken a iirm stand, according to what the Hon. G. W. Bussel! said to-day. A large number of applications are being received from societies to be allowed to use their funds for- war memorials?purposes, 6iiid the Minister. In every case these have been refused. The Government holds that these moneys were subscribed for (he benefit of soldiers, and not for the purpose of putting up concert halls mid that kind of thing. Therefore, no con. sent will be given to patriotic societies using their funds for any purpose except for the benefit of soldiers and dependants.
