Amongst the names of those mentioned as recipients of the Meritorious Service Medal is that of Keginiental Sergeantmajor €. 13. Stewart, the youngest son of -Mr. iind Mis. li. SI. Stewart, of 161 Oxford Street, South Duncdin. Sergeantmajor Stewart volunteered in 1915, and joined the Rifle' Brigade. Hβ spent gome time in Egypt, and saw fighting there. Afterwards he went to Krance and took part in several engagements. lie was severely wounded at Armentieres, and was on the sick list for eight months, after whioh ho was sent back (o the fighting line, where he was again engaged in several battles, but came through unscathed. He is attached to the MachineGun Corps.
News has been received of the death at Samarai Island, British Now Guinea, on March S, of Mr. Harry W. Hawke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Woodman Hawko, Waimnte. Mr. Harry Huwke went to tho front early in the war. He eervcd in Egypt, and was sent back home an invalid. Two years ago, as a returned soldier, he accepted a position on a plantation in New Guinea.
The death occurred at New Plymouth on Friday of Mr. T. C. Dawson, of the firm of Messrs. Dawson and Maudsley, Mr. Daw-son had been in ill-health for Rome time, anil had been on a visit to tho Tflrana.ki district with a view to recuperation. Hp was a vice-president of tho Chamber of ConinuTce, a prominent member of the We.llesley Club, and tho Hutt Bowling Club, and was greatly interested in the town-planning operations, Vcv fiome- eichteen years lie was representative- for Messrs.
