MINISTER SEEKS INFORMATION. Often is heard the ciy that scores ol returned soldiers are looking , for land which the Government is not in a position to give them. The Minister of Lands, who is in charge of soldier settlement, has been travelling all over the country recently, and in order that he may he informed of the numbers of men who are anxious to get land through the Government, he has .-sited the committees of all branches of the Returned Soldiers' Association to supply him periodically with a list of all their own members'who are looking for land, with particulars of the kind of farming they are prepared to miderlnke. With this illformation, the Minister will bo able to proceed with more-certainty in _ regard to land purchases. Many properties are at present .under offer to the Government, init until something is known of the numbers of men likely lo bo offering as settlers on thorn the Government cannot. go very far ahead of immediate requirements. It would manifestly be nowise for the Government to buy land for which it might ultimately have 110 use. Information is being asked about the class of farming the applicant prefers, and if. will not be sufficient for a man to say in reply simply "farming." Upon the class of'farming, the man is ready to undertake will depend the class of land to be purchased. And before the man can get land at all he must bo able to satisfy the Land, Board that 'lie has knowledge sufficient to enable him In carry on such farming operations as are suited to Hie piece of land for which he is nppl.ving.
