HUTT AND PETONE NEWS
The Petono members of the Buffalo, Lodge held a '"blackberry picnic", at Maori Bank this week. On this occasion the privileges were extended to the ladies and • children, who rolled up in good numbers. Capital luncheon, was prepared, after which sports were held. A married ladies' race, which caused considerable interest, was won after a close contest by Mrs. Ednev, Mrs. Simpeon being a good secoiid. Mi\ Glensor, of Low'er Hutt,.will be a candidate for municipal honours at. the next Lower Hult Borough Council election.
Tho Loyal Pctone Lodgo' of Oddfellows held their quarterly meeting on Thursday evening. Jt was dceided that a portion of the surplus money should be devoted towards tho reduction of levies imposed for soldier members' contribution and sick pay, ancf the balance, approximately oC-100, to ho.devpted to the reduction of members' ''contributions), The new medical agreement with', .the doctor* and chemist's/wiis . fiiijiUy .approved, and will be carried ■ into effcct lmediately, In regard to the proposnl to erect a soldiers' memorial, the .following resolution wiis curried:— I "That this lodge considers that the memorial to be erected should bo of a monumental nature, and is not in favour of any schenib on which there .would bo tin. annual charge for,upkeep,, , ,
