The necessity of passing regulations for standardising tlio packing and grading of .fruit in order that consumers can buy same with confidence has been long recognised, «nd regulations for this purpose have been ill force for years in tlio older fruitgrowing countries. The New Zealand' Department of Agriculture drafted regulations for this purpose, which wero approved of by I lie New Zealand Fruitgrowers' federation, and'it .was hoped that they would have beon in operation beforo now. A copy of the draft of theso regulations was Ween to the Conference of Australasian Fruitgrowers held iu Tasmania in October last 'by the New Zealand delegalo, and these regulations have been put into forco as from tlio first af this month in Tasmania, whereas the New Zealand Agricultural Department, which originated this matter, has not yet had the regulations gazetted.
