WOODVILLE MEETING STAR LADY WINS THE CUP. (By Telegraph—Special Correspondent.) Woodville, March 19. The Woodville meeting was opened' in glorious weather before a large crowd'. The totalisator handled .£2:J,GIU, us against .£21,010 last year. The Cup was won by, a maiden per- . former in Star Lady, who is destined to seo a better day. After winning (lie ■ Electric Handicap on Tigriliya, J. HockIcy was cautioned for crossing the lield at the start.
All started in the Hack Hurdles, and the public went heavily for Oro Ore. JIo ran a fair race, but Whiro always had tho most pace, and Ore Oro was never going lilco a winner. Tho lop weight jumped' off in front and led throughout. His jumping gained liim lengths at cvory fence, and he won very easily. Ore Ore was running second most of the'way, but Vacuum came and beat him in tho straight. Willy Knight was running woll up when he 'fell at the third fence. Moutoa Camp did well for a mile and a half, but lie then tired with tho jumping. Gwynne finished fourth, followed by Kurapai, Moutoa Camp, and Otara, in that order. There were, only three runnors in the Trial Plate, which was voted tho best of good things for Bitholia. However, the ■■good thing did not materialise, largely duo to over-confidence on M'Flinn's part. He was woll clear entering tho straight, and was lopking round at the field when suddenly Gray put in n dash on Lucid, and before the favourito could bo got going again the post was reached. Kynto, the only other'starter, was several lengths away. I Transmission and Star Lady were withdrawn from the Grandstand Handicap, and Lovematch and Moutoa Ivauova ■were the :best backed. At the start Lord Muskerry and Moutoa Ivanova jumped oft' in front, and were not headed on the journey. After a good finish the former,- who is the more seasoned, just •won, while Lovematch was a length and a half away. Idle Talk was on hand tho whole way and' finished fourth. Sacremen to ran a good race and was closo up at tho finish. Esthiopian and Penury Roso were never dangerous. Roso Pink, Gold Soult, and Jean Lnddo ■ were missing from the Cup field. In a good betting race, Battle Song finished up favourite, with Sonnino and Star Lady tho next choice. At tho start Classification dwelt and lost a bit of ground'. Battle Song'was early in the "rolo of pacemaker, with Sonnino and Depredation handy. Down, the hack Sonnino wont to the front, and Star- Lady moved up on the rails. Entering tho straight Star Lady was in charge, and slio then .ran home nn easy winner by four lengths from Pacific Slope, who was half - a dozen lengths clear of Red Ribbon, who finished well. Sonnino was fourth, and then camo Cooing, - Baltic Song, and' Depredation in a line. The time (2min. 5 -Msec.) is a record for tho course. Tho winner is owned by Mr. A. J. Toxward, who bred her. Her dam, Lady Lucy, was a New, Zealand Cu.o .jvmner.
The withdrawal of Woolahra left five runners in'the Hack Wolter Handicap, and Transmission was tho favourite, but the. others wero well supported. Papanui led a bunched field' into the' straight, yhero St. Omcr and Cross Words challenged. Gray then got tho favourite through on the rails, and she won nicely from Cross Words and St. Omcr. Consultation was tho la.st to finish.
There was a big field in the Electric Handicap, Bonny Briar being a good fav.ourite, with Torfrcda second choice. - At . tho start Sweet Corri, on the rails, was quickest to begin, but Torfreda soon ran past her. With two furlongs gone, Bonny Briar was in front, followed by.Tigritiya. The favourite looked a winner 100 yards off tho post, but Tigritiya stuck to her and worried her down, winning by a neck. .Torfreda was third, a length awav, and then caino Inah (who was badly left at the barrier), Sweet Corn, and Parisian Diamond. Demos ran badly. Statuette and Old Gold monopolised the betting ill the Plying Hack ITandioap. Hymarty. led- Old Gold, Gatherer, 'and' Statuette into the straight, when Old Gold took charge, nnd in the run homo won from Hymarty,■ with Gatherer close up. Haversack finished fourth, and,the favourite fifth. The winner .is an improving horse, and has'won three times 011 end. • , Tho concluding event resulted in a boil over, when'llastie heat a hot favourite in Retard. Galore, who made most of tho running, was close up, third.
