THE RECENT INCREASES.

In a report to tho Minister of Defenoe, General Richardson (commanding ths New Zealand troops in tho United Kingdom) mentions that tho pay of officers has been increased as from April 1 of ast year, and the scale authorised has, lie behoves, given general satisfaction. The allowance is not made in the case of now appointments. An amount of 3s. a day of the pay of married officers is deferred, but mar be allotted. This deferred pay, allotted b> the wife, takes the placo of the Feparation allowance of 3s. a dav that has been payable since April last to (he wife of a lieutenant or second lieutenant.
