At last night's meeting of the Petone Borough Council it was decided, on the motion ot Councillor M'Konzie, to write to the Minister of liailwnys, strongly recommending, in view of tile recent fatalit/, that improvements be made to the platform of carriages, and that a suitable device bo installed so that the gates of the platform may be closed automatically just before the train starts, and keut closed.until the arrival at deslinali.m. The device to be controlled from one point of the train, the same as the W'cslinghouse brake.
The bazaar held at Lower Hull last Thursday and Friday in aid of'funds for die erection 'of technical class-rooms was a liuancial success, and the committee, has noiv sufficient funds in hand to enable litem to lift Iho Government subsidy of .C3OA, and the Education Department will be approached 1 at an early dile and asked lo proceed with Iho erection or' the class-rooms.
. N'urse Everitt. of Wellington, was present at a combined meeting of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, held ot Petone lust evening, and gave a general talk on the influenza epidemic.
The I'clone borough inspector (Mr; W. B. (lough) reported to the council last evening that the time the Public Trust Office tool; over effecting repairs to houses under their control almost amounted to criminal neglect, and the council decided to bring the matter under the notice of the Minister in charge of the Department,
