Tho death occurred in Le\ l in of Jlr. h. Colliiison, lately of Oliau, afid a resident of this coast for tho post 3(! years, the last 28 of which. lie has lived at Oliau. The late-Mr. Colliiison disposed of his farm only a short lime ago, and removed'lo Levin on Thursday last. Jlo was not in the best of health, however, having suffered from intliijir/.a in Novem. her last,.and did not fully, recover from its effects. The deceased was born in Bradford, England, 70 years ago, anil accompanied by his wife came to New Zealand in 1870, landing on March 17 of that year. Mr. and Mrs. Colliiison settled in" llio Wairarapa for a, time after arriving, but afterwards removed io this ! coast. A widow and one son are left \ to mourn their loss, the latter being a i returned soldier, who is now in Auek- ■ land receiving medical treatment. Another draft of returned soldiers arrived in Levin. on Saturday evening. These were Privates W. Ilorrobin, J. Hooper, H. Murray. X. A. Andrews, Walker, and Lancc-Corporal C. F. Astridge. Private C. S. All.way. son of 3 Mr. W. S. Allaway, of Levin, was• dei tained at ■ Shannon, but came on later. Private H. G. Reading, son of Mr. W. .1. Reading, of Levin, is expected to re- . turn by the Hororata on Saturday next. Tho death occurred on Sunday of Mr. Richard Booth, .one of Olaki's oldest and I most. esteemed residents, aged 8.1 years. i. -Deceased, who was born in Westmorei land (England), came to New Zealand when a young man. For a time he lived r in Wanganui. and afterwards took up farming at Waihoanga, Otalci, where he lived till some twenty years ago. Ho r then retired and came to reside in the township .of Otaki, where, till a few d weoks ago, lie enjoyed good health. Deceased loaves a family of three—Mesdames Walter Best (Otaki) and G. H. J Kingdom (Manakau), and Mr. I?. AV. Booth (Otaki). Deceased was a promin- -- ent worker in the Anglican Church, and for many years filled the position of vicar's churchwarden. He \vas also an 9| enthusiastic bowler. An addition to the Oliau School is i- practically completed, and will be ready for use in a few days. Tho new room £ will accommodate about 50 puipils, bringing the capacity of tho school up to apio proximately 150 pupils. The roll number f- is 130 at present, and the headmaster (Mr. Henderson) ,expoct9 the school to bo fully occupied within tho present year. , ; For some time .past ono class has had to | receive its instruction in tho open air ! owing to the lack of inside accommodation. • The Levin Defence llifio Club contin--1(1 nod its trophy shooting on Saturday. The club fired its first ranges in tho second saries of trophies. Conditions ivero seven sr shots and sighter at 200, 500, and GOO yards, and tho shooting on tho wholo was very creditablo for the day. Eifled, man E.
