NOTES FROM YARIOUS CENTRES WAIRARAPA ITEMS 1 Tlio full expenses of delegates attending llio provincial conferences are in futiito tj bo paid by the executive of the Wairarapa branch of the Farmers' Union. The Masterton Ciunty Council has at prosent a credit balance of ,£2155 17s. 2d. During last month a sum of XIG37 Is. .'1(1. was received by way of subsidy from the Government on tlw 1018-10 ratos. Tho Wairarapa. Executive. of the Farmers' Union has passed tho following resolution: "That this executive desires tho Agricultural Department to take drastic steps to eradicate tho noxious shrub lantana, at present in this country, and to prevent tho importation of any more lantana seed by nursciymen and others." Tho clerk to the Masterton Comity Council is, of opinion that the present system of registering motor-cars is almost valueless for identification purposes. The chairman of the Masterton County Council has expressed himself strongly opposed to the resolution of the Asliburton County Council that military camps and the Territorial system should be abolished.. The Pahiatua County Council has supported the proposal of the Masterton County Council that trees be planted on county roads as a memorial to fallen soldiers. Plans have been prepared and tenders are shortly to be called for tho erection of the buildings on the Soldiers' Training Farm at Tarntahi. The buildings will include a manager's house, foreman's cottage, and accommodation for the soldiers. The* work of stocking the farm lias already beijn commenced, IGO Romney sheep having b'cen purchased-from Mr. J. Bidwill. Settlers are being appealed to for further stock. Tho Masterton district . high school wns burglariously entered a few nights ago. Desks and cupboards were broken up, but no .articles ,of any value were removed. This is the second occasion on which tlie school lias been entered during the last few months.
