ONSLOW COUNCILLORS

A SOCIAL CELEBRATION. After a brief business of the Onslow Borough Council last evening, the Mayor (Mr. J. 11". Dale) entertaiiied the Mayor of Wellington and the Onslow councillors,- town clerk, and road tnjin at supper in the Council Chambers. The supper was given to celebrate the conclusion of'the council's fork, brought about by the amalgamation of Onslow with Wellington. . ' The toast list was as follows:—"The King," "Onslow Borough," "The Town Clerk," "The Eoad Foreman," "The Press," "Greater Wellington," and "The N.Z.E.F." "Greater Wellington," coupled with the name of Mr. J. P. Luke, C.M.G., was proposed by Mr. Dale, who reminded the council that from the very start Mr. Luke had been in favour of taking Onslow into tho city. He had stuck to Onslow, right through, and but for his being' in the chair of' the City CouncilOnslow might, have had to remain out. Mr. Luke said he had no misgivings at all about the amalgamation, because lie believed it would be productive of mutual benefit. He valued greatly the invitation to be present, for he looked upon the occasion as much more of a birthday than a funeral. (Laughter.) The sooner Onslow came in to help build up a bigger, happier community the better. (Applause.) Excellent musical items were rendered during the evening by Messrs. P. Twiss and Abel Eowe.
