. MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Wellington braneluif the.lied Cross tiociety was held yesterday afternoon. The president, Mr. T. Voting, was in the elmii\ and there were present also: Mesdames Adams, Moorhouse, I'earce, Blunddl, and Firth, Messrs. Holmes, Veitcli ami tiush, and Miss S. Nathan (hon. secretary). Miss Nathan (hon. sieretarv) had arranged with four ladies to take it in turn to drive it. At present I hey lake six or seven men from each of the two hospitals once each day. Mr, Grove and Mr. .f. C. Crawford had also uttered to drive, occasionally. The matron at Miraniar wrote expressing thanks for a parcel of -IS honks, and also expressed tlio appreciation of the men for tire drives. She enclosed details of the expenditure of th?' .KSO grant made, to'' her for (he purchase of invalid food and comforts for the men. It wlis unanimously agreed that the grant of Ul.'tl) a month be continued. For Victoria Hospital a grant of .till was voted for this month, as the 'number of patients f here is beinj; greatly reduced. Mrs; I'earce rrnorted that a temporary arrangement had been made ivitli a taxi driver at Trtiitliani for taking the men in hospital there for drives. The men were taken in groups of live for an outing to Day's Bay for a charge of 4:2 each time. The committee approved of this arrangement continuing for the present. All drivers taking the men for outings are to he authorised to spend a reasonable amount on refreshments for them. A •vole of thanks was passed to Mr. Hiley, General Manager of the Railway Department', for granting passes to two ladies twice a week for the purpose of visiting Trentham Hospital. Visiting Committee was instructed to report all needs to the chairman. A vote of thanks, was passed to the chairman of the Overseas .Shipping Committee for arranging the transport of cases. Mrs. Firth, hop. treasurer of the Women's Red Cross Committee, wrote suggesting that the accounts previously kept uy her should be included in the general, accounts. This was agreed to.
Letters of thanks for comforts for the men were received from the captains of tho Oxfordshire and the Ruapelm; irom Lieutenant-Colonel Chaytor for 41 boxes of goods for Egypt; from Colonel Collins stating that ,J;25 received from New Zealand and .C 75 from the British Red Cross had been expanded on fruit and other comforts for the men on the Marama; .£25 worth of comforts had been placed on the Burma, . Matatua, and Zealandic for the benefit of soldiers being taken from Bombay, The goods authorised, namely, ,£250 worth of- foodstuffs for Salonika and .E250 worth of blankets and clothing for Serbia and France, ■have been sent. Acting on a recommendation from Colonel Collins, the committee resolved to send for 200 conies of "A Manual of Splints and Appliances for Bone and Joint Dressings," and decided to supply sub-centres with copies. Mrs. Firth was authorised (upon'reporting to the chairman) to arrange for tho expenditure of a sum necessary to put the croquet green at Mirnmar in playing order, the work to be p,ut in hand at once. Accounts to tlio amount of ,21206 14s. sd. were passed for payment." The report of tho Executive Committee was read. If; included an account of money spent ori Christmas chesr at Tc Wnilcato Sanatorium. It was also reported that .£3300 .should 'be- at once sent to England, this making New Zealand's .contribution to the' "Our Day" appeal ,£125,0(10. A letter from Mr. Tripp," asking for .£lO a month for comforts for Rotortia, was sent on * to Auckland.
