Inrega.rd to the sensational occurrence at Ivaikonra yesterday afternoon, it appears that George J'intotf was boring for water wteii a terrific explosion took placo, shingle being blown over tho derrick 30ft, high. Flames immediately, followed, and the derrick was set oil fire and practically wrecked. Tho exudation continued to burn fiercely until 7 o'clock, when the workers succeeded in plugging tho pipe. Opinions differ as to whether the explosion is due to gas or oil. Indications of petroleum have been noticed in several places in the district.
