LAND FOR SOLDIER SETTLEMENTS
I Sir,—Please allow me space for a few lines in your paper as. to land for soldiers. I took the.mail coach in from Jiketalmna through Alfrodton to P,ongaroa a few days ago, and the route lay through some very fine shfiep country, which would make ideal farms for returned soldiers. Some of the estates have been small farms, - arid made into big holdings by tho present owners at a very small ■ outlay. They are already su'r- , veyed into farms from 210 acres upwards. Why not the Government try and acquire these lands? They would save expense of surveying. There 13 some good land in the Alfredton district college reserve let for nearly nothing, and a few estates close to the township already improved and roaded, of which the Government should have the first refusal for soldiers' settlements instead of the owners selling and leasing to private individuals.—l'am; etc., TRAVELLER.
