LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

THE HOMECOMING Sir,—l have a suggestion to make wi'fl regard to the men returning by tlw Hororata, that a thanksgiving service In held in the Town Hall on Sunday after noou, to render thanks to Almighty God for the preservation ar.d ttie iiturn t« their homos and friende of meu who.wcnl away in 19U and 1915, and have been spared through innumerable daggers bj the grace of God. All returned men should bo invited to attend.—l am, etc, D. M. YEATS. March 10. '

THE MAYORALTY

HORORATA AND THE DUCHESS

Sir,— Referring , to your report in thii morning's Dominion, which states that a meeting of the City Council had been held, and that councillors had selected s candidate, and also pledged themselves t<l support him, loyally, I wish to state that I was' not present at that meeting, ae 1 have always held that the people should elect the Mayor, as well as elect tlie council, and I certainly would not bo a party to any such meeting held, aa it was in tho absence of the present Mayor, -I am, etc., JOHN CASTLE, City Councillor. March 11, 1919.

Sir,—lt is to be extremely regretted that tjie Eastbourne , Borough Council proposes to make money out of the return of the Main Body men. This, T aotice. they intend to do by sending out the; Duchess .with passengers at so nruch ft head. I understand that the body of enthusiasts who wish to give the men of the Main Body a hearty welcome homo dependedi to some extent, on being able to secure tho s?rvic«s of the Duchess (at a nominal figure) for the pwposee of conveying the serenaders and welcoming parties out on the harbour, but if , Buch a welcome is to be turned into a money-grubbing business by the local body tliat owns the harbour etcamer mentioned, it i> almost ii pity that the welcome is not made a shore one. What have the pqoplfl of Eastbourne to say about it?—l am , etc., EONA.
