LAND FOR SOLDIERS
REMOVING THE DISCHARGE DIFFICULTY. The Defence authorities have made arrangements to remove the difficulty that arose in the cases of soldiers who had not received discharges, but who wished to take up land . under- the repatriation 6cheme. The difficulty concerned particularly the men who were in camp a.t the timo of the signing of the armistice, and who, for the'purposes of repatriation, are reckoned as returned soldiers. These men were given leavo without pay, whereas the land settlement clauses of the Repatriation Act require the production of a discharge., It is announced now that men who are on leavo without' pay and who require discharges for repatriation purposes may apply to the Director of Recruiting. They must state clearly why they require the discharges. Except in these 6pecial cases the discharges will not be issued to replace the leave pas6es until the declaration of peace. The men who may take advantage of this arrangement are thoso who were in camp on November 12, 1918, and who were classed fit for active service. This applies to CI men as well as to A and B men.
