A COMPETITION IN PHOTOGRAPHS, An interesting section of the Townplanning Exhibition which will be held in conjunction with the forthcoming conference wil bo ono for photographic sWiec The- prizes will he awarded tor tne best photographs ehoViny city disfigurempnis, and side by 6id© with them. €uj)6r existing examples of city beauty, in the same town if possible, or tho Bame subject with tho disfigurement removed 111 the' photograph. ■ - The conditions and directions to competitors are eet out as follows inthe.circul&r which, has ten sent out by tho organiser of the conference: "Apart from disfiguring placards, there are manv crudities seen-in ail our towns which with little care could, be removed and the spots beautified—often ,by repainting cni.de designs which have been emphasised l\v picking out in staring colours'or by the planting of live fences and creepers and shrubs in place of the close and often very untidy fences which . now exist. ' ... "The photographs will be judged ; a3 photographs, and also from the point •of. view of-the improvements they suggest. The inove beautiful the photograph" and the'more striking the improvement the higher the marks they, will be awarded. ' The photographs must be 12in. .by 14in. enlargements.' Anything smaller than this would liot be so suitable for exhibition. They must, be mounted two on one side of millboard. . . "Prizes will also be awarded for the best .lantern-slides' of similar .subjects, which will be 6hown at the evening lautern exhibitions. The Innterii-slidesjjiiist also be accompanied by a slide giving the title, and the iiauio of the photographer. Any examples.of coloured pho- > tography in theso 6ubject.s would also bs very acceptable."
