NOT TO BE PERMITTED.

The question of permitting persons to stand in picture theatres was again before the City Council last night. It came up in the following report from the By-Laws Committee:— "That the committee have given turther consideration to the request of the Wellington Showmen's Association that tho council do not. strictly enforce the provisions of the theatre by-law, and permit a 'limited number of persons to stand at the back of the picture theatre auditoriums. Some members of the committee have inspected the theatres in the citv. and further reports have been obtained from the officers, and in view ol all the information More the committee they cannot recommend the council to depajft from the decision previously arrived at. , . . The council adopted the committees recommendation without comment.
