THE PUBLIC SERVICE
Sir,—lt was with surprise and wonder that I read the irrational resolution passed by the Executive Committee of (he Civil Service Association advocating that all temporary employee* in the Civil Service should be removed, on the plea, of making provision for returned soldier;?. Why should it be confined only to tehiporary employees? Jt is hoped that vhen the regrading system is in full swing that tho Public Service Cominissio.ier will exercise British justice, if it is found necessary to remove employees from the Service, and will not overlook the no small number of incompetents and unqualified servants that' ornament the socalled permanent staff, as well us thos.e who were once on the temporary staff. A better example of selfishness, pseudupatriotism, and shielding oneself at the expense of somebody else is impossible to conceive of. The writer, although a disinterested party, considers that antagonistic relations between one section of the Public Service, and another should not Iks tolerated, and that all employees in the Civil Service are servants of the State, and not the dictators of it.—l am. etc., .
